The Westminster Millennium Street Light was born out of an International Design Competition held by Westminster City Council in 1999 to mark the Millennium, and won by PearsonLloyd. The system re-describes the functional remit of street lighting. A primary part of the design is the reduction of street clutter, by seamlessly integrating typically disparate elements on the street into a system that focuses around the lamp standard. The result is a single coherent visual landscape that calms the street-scape.
