Design Bugs Out products to go into use in hospitals.
Four new bedside furniture designs to reduce healthcare associated infections were made available today for the NHS to purchase after testing showed positive patient and staff feedback.
Health Minister Simon Burns said:
“These four innovative and user-friendly furniture designs – now available for hospitals to buy – provide additional ways to help to reduce infections. They will make it easier for staff to keep wards cleaner and help combat the spread of infections. This means keeping patients healthier, as well as saving the NHS money in the long term.”

Accident and Emergency - Reducing Violence and Aggression in the A&E by design will launch tomorrow.

In May 2011, the Department of Health and the Design Council commissioned a multi-disciplinary team led by PearsonLloyd, to look at how design could reduce levels of violence and aggression in A&E.
The resulting designs look at how design can make improvements to A&E environments, systems and services so that the likelihood of violence and aggression occurring is reduced.
The primary design output is a guidance package that communicates essential information to patients and other service users arriving at A&E. The second design output focuses on a programme to engage staff and work with them to ensure a departmental culture of dignity and respect.

Design consultancies PearsonLloyd and FW Design have completed the design of a multi-channel information system for the City of Bath. The system is part of a wider Public Realm and Movement Strategy to revitalise the City centre over the next 15-20 years.
The first distinctive circular way-finding maps and a new suite of public transport information are now on the streets of Bath, housed in contemporary bronze monoliths, bus shelters and flags. The system works across all modes of movement – walking, cycling and public transport.
PearsonLloyd are also completing a wide range of bespoke street furniture including benches, cycle stands, bins, bollards, street trading units, drinking water stations and lighting. The first of these, a cast bronze and timber prototype bench, cast bronze circular cycle stands, and bicycle corrals that replace a car parking space are currently being tested on street.

As part of this work we are asking our friends and colleagues to share their experiences with us. If you have visited a British A&E in the past 10 years, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could spare a few moments to fill in an online questionnaire.

PearsonLloyd, has been chosen to spearhead a new design-led approach to reducing violence and aggression in hospital Accident and Emergency departments.
The agency will work with front line staff at three A&E departments across the country to design innovative new ways to reduce violence and aggression towards NHS staff, which is estimated to cost at least £69 million a year in staff absence, loss of productivity and additional security. The year-long project, ‘Reducing violence and aggression in A&E by design’ is being run by the Design Council, and has been commissioned by the Department of Health.
The agency was selected from a field of 47 applications by an independent panel of 20 experts in specialisms such as design, health care, patient experience, architecture and security which was convened by the Design Council. To respond to the challenge PearsonLloyd formed a partnership with the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, Tavistock Institute, Tavistock Consultancy Service, Tavistock& Portman NHS Foundation Trust, Prof Jonathan Benger from the University of West of England, and Dr Nigel Caldwell, University of Bath.

PearsonLloyd in Milan, 12 - 17 April 2011

PearsonLloyd launches a series of new products in Milan this week.

Eleven is a new sofa system for Alias. It features aluminium legs to which back and armrests cushions are anchored.
Cast in aluminium and enamelled in various colours, these slender legs create an elegant feature for each seating
element in the Eleven collection.

PearsonLloyd launches two products with Tacchini this year. Fixie is an adjustable stool with an expressed tube structure that perfectly represents its function
Its resultant graphic quality provides an instantly recognisable, sculptural form. Crystal is a sofa series with oblique angles and a floating base, providing a subtle,
but definite departure from the ubiquitous rectangular sofa system.

Designed by PearsonLloyd, for Modus, Part is a simple and uncomplicated sofa and lounge chair range. The Part modular components makes it easy to specify and configure.
The cubic outer frame is offset by the softer upholstery of the seat and back, emphasising comfort, whilst remaining calm and neutral.

Following the success of the Lox Bar stool, Lox is a newly launched chair by PearsonLloyd for German brand WalterKnoll. It delivers a seamless scuptural form and extraordinary comfort
through a refined and ambitious piece of plastic engineering.

The Aram Gallery opens in July with a refreshed installation of Prototypes and Experiments - a show where prototypes and experimental
designs sourced from both emerging and established designers' studios are exhibited together.
Prototypes and experiments are critical elements in the development process of any new design. The prototype is the manifestation of the design idea on its
way to production; experiments are more like steps on the way. The prototype, being part of a process, makes more real an idea that will lead to a final piece,
and is not made with the intention of being sold or shown outside the deigner's studio.
This year PearsonLloyd has been invited to exhibit prototypes and rigs used during their design process of cobi chair. A new work chair for the collaborative work
